                Introducing Multicast Fusion with WebCaster
.

What is Multicast Fusion?

Multicast fusion on the Flash® Platform is an innovative blend of both IP multicast and application-level multicast that increases network capacity while decreasing overall network load and latency.

Multicast fusion solves the cost and complexity challenges of IP multicast. By combining application-level multicast, which leverages a peer-assisted model of video sharing, with an IP multicast-enabled network, a video stream can reach virtually everyone on the network using existing bandwidth and infrastructure.  With the fusion of IP and application-level multicast, the enterprise is assured to reach the broadest possible audience without the need to upgrade all of its network routers or add expensive bandwidth to every remote location. Multicast fusion finally unlocks the full potential for video within the enterprise.

WebCaster and Multicast Fusion

MediaPlatform® WebCaster is the only enterprise video tool that enables you to take advantage of multicast fusion on the Flash® Platform. WebCaster offers the world’s first enterprise-grade multicast fusion streaming video player, built on the Open Source Media Framework (OSMF) guidelines. Multicast fusion and WebCaster brings potentially radical improvements and cost reductions to your enterprise video capabilities and allows you to:

  • Maximize the reach of your webcast, internally and externally, with minimal network changes
  • Avoid network congestion when webcasting to bandwidth constrained sites
  • Produce a single stream for all popular operating systems and browsers
  • Cut streaming costs and save money
